WASHINGTON — Nearly 100 tenants will get full refunds after a court found landlord Adolphe Edwards and his group A.J. Edwards Realty responsible for more than 8,700 legal violations at their apartment complexes.
According to the suit brought by D.C.’s Office of the Attorney General, tenants in Edwards’ nine buildings across wards 4 and 8 dealt with mold, water and sewage leaks, rat and raccoon infestations, collapsing ceilings, dirty and trash filled common areas and fire and electrical hazards, along with toxic lead paint contamination. The buildings racked up more than 1,400 DC housing code violations, plus more than 7,200 toxic lead paint protection law violations.
