Toddler dies after being left in hot car in Montgomery County; second such death in 2025

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A 2-year-old girl has died after being left unattended in a hot car in Montgomery County. It happened on Wednesday near Arcola Elementary in Silver Spring, Maryland. According to sources, the father dropped one child off at school but allegedly forgot to drop his 2-year-old off at a babysitter, and it wasn’t until hours later that the child was found, and by then it was too late.

“The officers got there. They found a toddler who was unresponsive. The parents were distraught, and the toddler was taken to an area hospital where they were pronounced dead,” said Montgomery County Police Spokesperson Sheira Goff.

According to the advocacy group Kids and Car Safety, an average of 38 children die this way in the U.S. each year. This incident is the second death so far in 2025, coming even before the heat of summer arrives…
