17-year-old who escaped DYRS facility involved in other DC shootings, sources say

WASHINGTON — A 17-year-old, who police say escaped a halfway house in Pennsylvania and is accused of committing a recent armed robbery in Northeast D.C., is connected to other high-profile shootings in 2022, sources tell WUSA9.

Police say that on Sunday, three teenage boys escaped Clock Towers School in Glen Mills, a contracted facility for D.C.’s Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS), and then stole a red Land Rover and drove about three hours to the District.

Investigators say the stolen car was involved in an armed robbery on the 700 block of 8th Street Northeast. DC Police say that just before 11 p.m. on Sunday, they located a man who had been shot and said he had been robbed. Court filings say the victim explained that two suspects jumped out of the car, one had a handgun and the other a rifle. The victim told police that he had heard several gunshots before realizing he had been struck in the lower right hip and fell to the ground.
