Fourth man sentenced in deadly 2020 shooting of 13-year-old in DC

WASHINGTON — A fourth man has been sentenced in the deadly shooting of a 13-year-old boy in D.C. in 2020.

Aaron Brown, 29, was sentenced Friday to 18 years in prison for his role in Malachi Lukes’ death. He was sentenced after pleading guilty to assault with intent to kill while armed.

Brown was part of a group of five men tied to a string of violent shootings connected to neighborhood gang conflicts that escalated into deadly retaliation. On March 1, 2020, Brown was a part of two back-to-back shootings. In the first, the men began got out of a stolen Kia Soul and began shooting at Lukes and three friends after following them, who were walking to go play basketball on the 600 block of S Street NW. As he ran away, the men shot Lukes in the back. Just ten minutes later, they shot at people walking in another neighborhood. No one was hurt in the second shooting…
