Greenbelt, Md., mayor considers next steps after FBI says HQ will stay in DC

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — After the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) announced Tuesday that it will scrap plans to move the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) headquarters to Greenbelt, Maryland, and will instead remain in D.C., the Maryland city’s mayor told 7News they must now consider how else to boost the local economy.

Mayor Emmett Jordan said the decision to reverse course represents missed opportunities for the city, particularly the area near the Greenbelt Metro station where the headquarters would have been constructed.

“Greenbelt is the optimal site, so the abrupt reversal of this plan is very disappointing,” Jordan said. “Other vendors that would have wanted to be a little bit closer to the headquarters, they definitely would have relocated either directly there at the mixed use facility at the Metro station or in the surrounding area: Retail, more restaurants, other amenities the workers would need.”…
