DC police report no violations, arrests during first weekend of Navy Yard’s Juvenile Curfew Zone

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — D.C. police enforced its first Extended Juvenile Curfew Zone this weekend in Navy Yard amid the city’s efforts to address ongoing safety concerns in the area.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith announced last week that the city’s first extended youth curfew zone would be enforced in Navy Yard from 8 p.m. on Friday, July 11, through 11 p.m. on Sunday, July 13. The curfew prohibited anyone under the age of 17 from gathering in groups of nine or more in public places within the zones, including at establishments.

The announcement came just days after police arrested more than 20 teens under the age of 18 over the Fourth of July weekend in connection with unlawful firework activity, largely in the Navy Yard neighborhood.
