The streets of Washington, D.C., are a little safer following a week-long effort by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to recover illegal firearms. According to a recent release by the MPD, from July 21 to July 27, 2025, the department’s detectives and officers confiscated 60 firearms across the District. These recoveries are part of an ongoing initiative to curb the violence associated with illegal gun possession in the nation’s capital.
Among the week’s recoveries was a Glock 30 .40 caliber handgun, which was found in the 5600 block of Chillum Place, Northeast. Izaiah Pharoah McNeil, 29, of Capitol Heights, MD, was arrested in connection with the recovered weapon. McNeil now faces multiple charges, including carrying a Pistol without a License and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Device, reported the MPD in their weekly roundup. While walking the streets, the department’s specialized units, along with patrol officers, played a vital role in the identification and interception of these dangerous weapons.
