DC education reps suggests Real IDs for DC Public Schools’ students amid police surge

WASHINGTON (7News) — With hundreds of National Guard members patrolling the streets of D.C. and students headed back to school on August 25, two D.C. State Board of Education reps are calling on leaders to step in and help provide an added layer of safety for students.

LaJoy Johnson-Law, the Ward 8 Representative on the D.C. State Board of Education, and Jacque Patterson, the At-Large representative on the State Board of Education and President of the State Board of Education, released a letter to the Mayor and other officials asking for collaboration to help students obtain Real IDs.

“It is imperative that we keep our children safe—and we must do everything possible to ensure their survival. Families are counting on us for real, collaborative solutions, and helping our youth obtain Real IDs is one concrete step we can take now. In these desperate times, with military personnel who don’t know our schools or our kids on our streets, our students are especially vulnerable,” Johnson-Law and Patterson said in a statement…
