Washington D.C. Medical Cannabis Sales Reach $8.84 Million in July, Year-to-Date Tops $50 Million

Washington D.C.’s medical cannabis market continued its record-setting pace in July 2025, with licensed businesses reporting $8,844,000 in total sales—the second-highest monthly total since the program launched.

The figure represents a roughly 5% increase from June’s $8.4 million and nearly doubles the $4.49 million reported in July 2024, underscoring the rapid expansion of the city’s marijuana industry. Through the first seven months of 2025, D.C.’s medical marijuana market has generated approximately $50.3 million in sales, according to the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration (ABCA). That’s almost $20 million more than the $30.8 million collected between January and July 2024, a year-over-year increase of about 63%.

According to the ACBA, in July, five new storefronts opened, bringing the total number of licensed dispensaries to 85.

Patient participation also rose. More than 32,000 patients were served in July, including 17,677 registered D.C. residents, up from 13,025 in June. Temporary out-of-state patients declined from 17,052 to 12,405 but still accounted for roughly $500,000 in sales.
