Traffic fatalities in D.C. are the lowest they’ve been in 12 years, the Department of Transportation said, crediting road redesigns and other measures.
DDOT numbers released Tuesday show a 57% decrease in traffic deaths compared to last year. Here’s a look at the data:
- 35 people were killed in traffic fatalities in D.C. at this point last year, compared to 15 this year so far.
- 111 drivers had major injuries in D.C. at this point last year, compared to 87 this year so far.
DDOT said it’s slowing down drivers with flex posts, intentional turn lanes, bike lanes and bus lanes.
