Fatal Incident at Van Ness-UDC Metro Station Disrupts Service as Individual Dies After Being Struck by Train

An incident unfolded at the Van Ness-UDC Metro station yesterday morning, as a person died after being struck by a train. The station was temporarily closed, impacting commuters and causing a suspension of service between Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights, NBC Washington reports.

Following the incident, Metro officials reviewed surveillance footage, and concluded that the individual had intentionally positioned themselves in the way of the oncoming train, leading to their death on the scene. According to WJLA, the area around the 4300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW was also affected, with road closures and warnings issued for drivers to exercise caution.

The disruption extended beyond just the immediate vicinity of the station. WMATA advised travelers of alterations in train services as the Red Line was momentarily disrupted.
