WASHINGTON — After a grand jury declined to indict them on felony charges last week, two D.C. residents accused of assaulting police say their case should be tossed out altogether because they were wrongly charged in federal court.
Prosecutors charged Donisha Butler and Terrance Wilson last month with forcibly assaulting members of the DC Police department who were attempting to control an “uncooperative and disorderly crowd” following a report of possible fireworks in Southeast’s Douglass neighborhood.
In a one-page affidavit, investigators alleged Wilson’s elbow made “physical contact” with an officer while he was instructing the crowd to get back. Likewise, the affidavit alleged Butler struck another officer in the face with her hand while the officer was pushing her backward…
