Helping DC Families Navigate School Challenges with Confidence

WASHINGTON (7News) — The DC Office of the Ombudsman for Public Education serves as an impartial resource for families, students, and schools across the District.

The office’s role is to help resolve conflicts within DC public and public charter schools, ranging from special education needs to student safety and enrollment issues. Families who reach out can be assured that the process is both confidential and independent, allowing them to navigate challenges without concern that the office is beholden to other agencies or school systems.

In 2022, the office expanded its services with the launch of the Special Education Hub, a dedicated initiative designed to provide even deeper support for families and community members. Through the hub, families have access to virtual and in-person training sessions, one-on-one support via email or phone, and a broad library of resources that are available in print, online, and video formats.
