Off-Duty Officer Witnesses Moped Carjacking in Northeast D.C., Suspect Apprehended with Multiple Charges

An off-duty member of the Metropolitan Police Department reportedly witnessed a bold moped carjacking last Wednesday night in Northeast D.C., leading to a swift arrest by the authorities. The incident unfolded in the 1000 block of Brentwood Road, Northeast, around 9:44 p.m., as described in a press release by the Metropolitan Police Department. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Terel Rivers Antwoin, was accused of forcibly removing the rider from their moped and fleeing the scene on the stolen vehicle.

Following the carjacking, the off-duty officer acted quickly to broadcast the suspect’s last known direction, this information markedly aiding responding officers from the Fifth District. They managed to flood the area and performed a traffic stop at the 900 block of 17th Street, Northeast, where they successfully apprehended Antwoin. Along with retrieving the victim’s moped, it was also discovered that Antwoin was a man with no fixed abode, wanted on multiple charges related to lewd conduct.

In the aftermath of his arrest, Antwoin faced numerous charges that included Unarmed Carjacking, Reckless Driving, and No Permit, according to the police report. Additionally, the investigation found that he was already sought by the Metro Transit Police for three DC Superior Court arrest warrants for Lewd, Indecent, or Obscene Acts and was further charged with two counts of Fugitive from Justice.
