WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A Maryland man was sentenced Friday after he was found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl in his care while working for the D.C. Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS).
Kelvin Powell, 63, of Temple Hills, was ordered to spend 20 years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender.
This comes after a D.C. jury found him guilty of a slew of charges, including first-degree sexual abuse of a ward, in early July.
