WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Parents rallied on the steps of the D.C. City Council on Tuesday, against what they call “systemic failures” at the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS).
This comes after a Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS) employee was sentenced to prison for 20 years last Friday for sexually abusing a minor in his care.
Parents and community members said they are fed up with what they call a pattern of abuse and corruption by DYRS. They said their children do not receive the mental health and rehabilitation services they need, and have been abused and denied proper hygiene.
