DC man captures alligator from Washington Channel

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man found a new meaning to “catch of the day” after he managed to find the alligator spotted in the Washington Channel on Thursday.

Phoenix Norwood said the dock master at The Wharf put out a warning Thursday to residents about an alligator spotted in the water, to which Norwood took it upon himself to go and find it.

“I actually scooped it up…” said Norwood. “…Got him wiggling and all that stuff. And then I kind of turned it and held it like that.”

Norwood described the encounter with the alligator, which included wrangling it in his net for about ten minutes until harbor patrol arrived.

“Still ferocious, of course,” said Norwood. “It was very angry. It was squirming around. It was fighting with me–hissing. It was not a happy camper.”…
