WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A man was sentenced to prison Thursday after pressuring witnesses in an ongoing case involving him to give false testimony, the U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia announced.
The USAO said that 35-year-old Dawayne Joseph Spriggs of D.C. and Prince George’s County, Md. pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice in June. He was sentenced to nine years in prison for obstruction of justice and subornation of perjury.
On Sept. 13, 2023, Spriggs was charged in a 2014 cold case sexual assault case. The Grand Jury added a charge of obstructing justice on Oct. 11, 2023.
