José Andrés restaurants in DC offer free lunch to federal workers during government shutdown

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — With the government shutdown still in full effect, celebrity chef José Andrés is offering free food to federal workers at four of his restaurants in Washington, D.C.

“We have always believed that good food can bring people together, especially in challenging times,” the José Andrés Group wrote in an Instagram post Monday. “Being in the heart of downtown DC, we’re proud to serve so many Federal employees who stop by our restaurants for lunch and we want to keep that going!”

Government shutdown specials in DC, Virginia, Maryland

According to the José Andrés Group, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, federal employees can dine-in at these D.C. restaurants to enjoy the following complimentary items during the government shutdown:

Jaleo by José Andrés — A free sandwich

China Chilcano — A free donburi

Zaytinya — A free durum or pita

Oyamel Cocina Mexicana — A free torta

To receive the free items, all workers have to do is show their government ID.
