Federal workers facing missed paychecks turn to financial lifelines amid shutdown

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — As the government shutdown stretches on with no clear end in sight, tens of thousands of federal employees and their families are bracing for another missed paycheck on Oct. 24.

“Everybody wants to worry in uncertainty, so my advice is focus on what you can control,” said Jordan Thompson, J.D., a chartered financial advisor and National Guardsman who understands the strain from both a personal and professional perspective.

Short-Term Solutions

Several banks and financial institutions are offering interest-free loans to federal workers. While these can be a short-term fix, Thompson urges caution.

“That money they’ve taken is a loan and will need to be paid back at some point,” he said. “Simply by applying, that could impact your credit score.”…
