The streets of Southeast D.C. echoed with gunfire on a recent Thursday night, prompting a swift response from the Metropolitan Police Department. At around 10:45 p.m. on August 7, police were called to the 5000 block of H Street, Southeast, after reports of gunshots were made. When officers arrived, they found evidence of a shooting, but no victim was at the scene, according to a statement from the MPD.
It was only moments later that the situation became clearer, a gunshot victim had made their way to a nearby hospital, seeking life-saving care and it was there that officers found an adult female, awake and enduring the pain of her injuries, confirming she was the one caught in the firing at H Street. The MPD reported the woman was “conscious and breathing, suffering gunshot wounds.” This incident is now at the forefront of an active search for two suspects, with the police department turning to the community for aid.
