Free Construction Event in Washington, D.C. Inspires Local Families and Kids to Explore Skilled Trades

On October 18, 2025, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) hosted The Big Build event at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. The event was free and open to families from the capital region, including Virginia and Maryland. Activities included wiring lights, pouring concrete, and using construction tools.

NAHB staff organized a ‘Build a House’ station. Children designed model homes and received items such as safety vests and tape measures. Tammie Ross, CEO of Residence by Ross and author of ‘Breaking Ground, Breaking Glass Ceilings,’ attended the event.
