Hearing continues in lawsuit to stop West Virginia National Guard deployment to D.C.

KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WOWK) — The case challenging the deployment of the West Virginia National Guard to Washington D.C. is continuing in a Kanawha County court room.

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of West Virginia filed a lawsuit on behalf of West Virginia Citizen Action Group (WVCAG) in August, asking for a temporary restraining order to stop the deployment.

In the complaint, the ACLU said that Gov. Patrick Morrisey (R-W.Va.) overreached his authority by deploying the guard to D.C., saying, “West Virginia law is clear: The governor may deploy the national guard outside our borders only for specific, enumerated purposes- none of which exist here.”…
