WASHINGTON — As healthcare continues to take center stage of the government shutdown, neighbors in the DMV are bracing for major Medicaid changes that could leave thousands without healthcare.
On Jan. 1, 2026, the eligibility standards for Medicaid are decreasing from 215% of the federal poverty level to 138%.
To put that into perspective, the federal poverty level 2025 income for individuals is $15,650. Currently, anyone making less than $33,648 qualifies for Medicaid.
