WASHINGTON (7News) — The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pennsylvania announced Monday that a Maryland man is facing dozens of federal charges after authorities said he mailed threatening letters to Jewish organizations in several states.
Prosecutors said 55-year-old Clift Seferlis of Garrett Park was charged by information with 17 counts of mailing threatening communications and eight counts of obstructing the free exercise of religious beliefs. The charges follow his arrest in June.
According to court documents, from March 2024 through June 2025, Seferlis allegedly sent more than 40 letters and two postcards to at least 25 Jewish institutions, including synagogues, museums, community centers, schools, nonprofit groups, and even a Jewish deli.
