In-person rental assistance applications cause chaos, long lines for DC renters

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Long lines stretched around the block Thursday as D.C. residents rushed to apply for the District’s Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) in person.

With online applications shut down this year, residents were required to line up in person for appointments only. The change quickly created confusion and overcrowding.

Residents said they are desperate for help with paying overdue rent, security deposits or irst month’s rent, but many described this year’s process as disorganized and overwhelming.
