Three seniors from Central State University—Ray Robinson, Jalen Martin, and Isabella Winter Mitchell—developed a mobile app called Get Active. The app won first place at the university’s Tech on the Yard pitch competition and later received top honors during the HBCU tour. As a result, the team was invited to present at the Techsgiving conference in Washington, D.C., in December 2025. There, they will present their project to investors, entrepreneurs, and technology professionals.
The idea for Get Active came from the students’ experiences with low campus engagement and challenges in event communication at Central State. They observed that flyers were often ignored and social media posts did not always reach students. This led to missed events and less student interaction.
The team first entered a campus competition with a T-shirt design. After advice from Dr. Marvin Reid Jr., Chairperson of the Department of Business Administration, they decided to create a mobile app. Their initial pitch was a slideshow.
