National Guard soldiers from 10 states remain in D.C. as troop surge enters fifth month

WASHINGTON — National Guard members from 10 states could be seen patrolling Washington, D.C. over the weekend as the troop surge in the District enters its fifth month.

According to the Joint Task Force, a majority of the troops — 1,780 soldiers, as of Saturday — were deployed from outside of the District. About 32% of the troops (852 personnel) were deployed from the DC National Guard.

All told, 2,632 National Guard members are in active deployment with the JTF-DC, an increase of about 500 soldiers from this time last month.
