GREENBELT, Md. (7News) — After Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Director Kash Patel announced Friday the agency was officially staying in D.C., Maryland leaders are now scrambling to figure out the next steps now that the initial plans to move the headquarters to Greenbelt have been scrapped.
In a post on X, Patel said the J. Edgar Hoover Building in D.C., the current headquarters, will be permanently shut down in favor of moving the law enforcement agency less than a mile down the road to the Ronald Reagan Building. He did not, however, say the exact date when the Hoover Building will be closed or when personnel will move into the new offices.
This long-telegraphed decision to stay in the city comes after the General Services Administration announced in 2023 it had selected Greenbelt, Md., as the home of the brand new FBI headquarters over Springfield, Va., capping off a nearly decade-long search…
