Macy’s Melee: Man Charged With Assault After Alleged Theft At Waldorf Store

WALDORF, Md. — An Upper Marlboro man has been charged with theft and second-degree assault following an incident at a Waldorf department store, according to charging documents filed in Charles County District Court.

Court records show Brian Christopher Thornley, 40, is charged with misdemeanor theft of property valued at less than $100 and misdemeanor second-degree assault stemming from an incident on Dec. 21, 2025, at the Macy’s store located at St. Charles Towne Center.

According to a statement of probable cause, officers with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to the store after loss prevention personnel reported a suspected theft. Investigators allege Thornley took a gray Polo Ralph Lauren hat valued at $65, removed the security sensor using pliers, concealed the item on his person and attempted to leave the store without paying…
