Carjackings decrease in DC but teens are still committing most of them

WASHINGTON (7News) — While carjackings in the District have decreased for a second year in a row, a significant number of last year’s carjackings involved teens with guns.

Despite the decline in overall numbers, the issue remains a pressing concern for visitors, residents, and officials.

Pastor Patrick J. Walker of New Macedonia Baptist Church recounted a harrowing experience in 2023 when a group of men attempted to carjack his daughter in front of their home. “He showed a firearm and told her to get out of the car,” Walker said.
