WASHINGTON D.C. (WOWK) — Members of the West Virginia National Guard are being credited with stopping a fire in an apartment building while on patrol in Washington D.C.

According to a joint taskforce report, the guard members were on a routine patrol when they smelled smoke coming from an apartment building.
When they entered the building, they found a dryer that had caught fire and was spreading to a back wall.

The guard members were able to put out the fire with extinguishers and evacuate residents before fire crews arrived.
Around 160 members of the West Virginia National Guard are in Washington as a part of the D.C. Safe and Beautiful Mission. They are expected to remain in Washington through the end of February…
