Row house catches fire on Benning Road in DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Thick smoke was seen billowing in a Northeast D.C. neighborhood overnight after a row house caught fire.

In a post on the X platform at 2:45 a.m. on Jan. 3, the DC Fire and EMS Department said crews were responding to a fire at a row house in the 4000 block of Benning Road NE. There, firefighters reported finding a fire coming from a two-story corner row house, with wires down in front of the home.

Crews began fighting the fire from outside the row house because the flames were too intense to enter. Firefighters also worked to extinguish flames at the attached row house, officials said.

Images from the scene show heavy orange flames coming from the corner row house, with a large presence of first responders. Officials noted that both affected row homes were vacant, but that a two-alarm fire had taken place there in the past.

By 4:10 a.m., crews had extinguished the fire and were hitting hotspots. No injuries were reported.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains unclear…
