DC reports first homicide of 2026 after man killed in northeast shooting

WASHINGTON, DC (7News) — A man was killed in an overnight shooting in Northeast D.C., marking the city’s first homicide of 2026, according to police.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers responded to reports of a shooting just after midnight in the 1300 block of Varnum Street NE. Police tell 7News the man was found suffering from a gunshot wounds.
