CHILLUM, Md. — Federal immigration officials are criticizing Prince George’s County after the release of a man convicted in a violent stabbing, saying local authorities ignored a detainer request despite knowing he was in the country illegally.
The case centers on Rafael Aguilar, a Honduran citizen whom U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said is in the United States unlawfully. According to police and court records, the incident began last April when officers were called to a restaurant and bar in Chillum for a reported stabbing.
The victim told police he was walking home to a nearby apartment complex when he felt a sharp pain in his back. He said he collapsed, looked up, and saw Aguilar standing over him, holding a knife and threatening to kill him. The victim managed to escape and later recovered from his injuries…
