Free salt giveaway helps DC residents clear ice and snow

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — People around the District have some help digging out from the ice and snow from the recent snowstorm as free salt is being handed out over the weekend.

“I’m very happy because I’ve been looking for two days for some salt,” said Melissa Posey, who received two bags worth at the distribution site set up near her home in Congress Heights. “Actually, I just got out a day ago because my neighbors helped me get out because it was solid, you know, ice.”

The salt is part of the District’s supply. City leaders chose to share it with those who need it most.
