Man killed in Northwest DC apartment, police believe, after body found burning in unit

WASHINGTON — DC Police now believe that the man found dead inside his Northwest D.C. apartment unit during a fire response had been killed, with officers announcing a homicide investigation on Thursday.

Firefighters said they discovered someone’s remains after putting out what they described as, “a small fire” early Wednesday morning at 3:30 on the 1400 block of Rhode Island Avenue Northwest. The victim was identified on Thursday as 40-year-old Syed Hammad Hussain.

Emergency crews noted that Hussain had blunt-force trauma wounds and thermal injuries…
