Police search for man who was ‘overpowered by customers’ during attempted robbery of Virginia phone store

SPRINGFIELD, Virginia — Police are searching for a man who tried to rob a Fairfax County phone store at gunpoint, but was apparently overpowered by customers inside. The department has released surveillance images, and is asking for the public’s help to find him.

According to police, officers responded to the Cricket Wireless store at 6330 Springfield Plaza for a report of a robbery just before 8 p.m. on Feb. 23. Once on scene, officers learned that a man entered the business armed with a handgun and attempted to steal merchandise.

During the incident, the armed man attempted to restrain customers inside the store, but was “overpowered by customers,” police said. He left the scene before officers got there…
