Families return home after fire, carbon monoxide detected at Southeast DC building

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Several families were evacuated from their homes in Southeast D.C. over the weekend after a fire broke out at an apartment building.

The blaze happened in the 2500 block of Elvans Road, where a fire ignited on the third floor of an apartment building.

In a post on X around 7:45 p.m. on March 7, the DC Fire and EMS Department said crews were called to a box alarm. Once on the scene, firefighters found flames coming from the second floor of the apartment building.

Crews extinguished the fire; however, due to elevated carbon monoxide levels in the building, 39 residents were forced to evacuate…
