Smoke billows in Rockville after metal scrap pile catches fire

ROCKVILLE, Md. (DC News Now) — Heavy smoke was seen billowing in Rockville on Monday morning after a metal scrap pile caught fire.

In a post on the X platform just before 11 a.m., Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said crews were responding to a “metal scrap pile on fire” in the area of the14900 block of Old Dover Road.

At the scene, firefighters found a large scrap pile ablaze, with thick, black smoke surging into the sky.

Images from the scene show crews using ladders to get above the flames, dousing them with water.

In an update shortly after noon, Piringer noted that crews had contained the fire with no injuries reported; however, smoke was still visible from miles away.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the cause of the fire remains unclear…
