‘It is a miracle he didn’t kill anyone’ | Man threw ‘dynamite’ into occupied DC apartment, prosecutors say

WASHINGTON — A Valentine’s Day apartment fire that displaced more than a dozen people, including three children, was caused when a man threw an explosive device into an occupied apartment, according to federal prosecutors and fire department arson investigators.

On Feb. 14, just after 4:30 p.m., DC Fire and EMS crews responded to an apartment fire in the 1400 block of Eastern Avenue Northeast. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire after they arrived, but a total of 15 people and one cat were displaced by the flames.

Arson investigators were then called to the scene to conduct an investigation into the cause. Court documents show that during the investigation, member of the National Capitol Region Arson and Explosives Task Force determined the fire originated in one specific apartment…
