WASHINGTON — The DC Council is taking Mayor Muriel Bowser to court, saying she has been withholding key budget documents for multiple fiscal years. The lawsuit comes after a judge held her in contempt in a similar case last year.
The suit claims the mayor’s refusal to release the documents is blocking the council’s ability to do real oversight and craft the city’s budget.
The documents are called budget enhancement requests. Each city agency in the District is required to submit them during budget season. They go from agencies to the budget office and are then passed to the mayor for policy decisions about what to include in the proposed budget…
