WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Thousands are expected to celebrate the annual DC Emancipation Day Parade and Festival on Sun., Apr. 19.
The event is hosted by Downtown DC and commemorates the Apr. 16, 1862, signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act that freed thousands of enslaved people in the District.
Ahead of the festivities, drivers can expect road closures and delays from Fri., Apr. 17 through Mon., Apr. 20. Additionally, parking restrictions will be in effect.
