DC weather whiplash: Shorts Saturday, sweatshirts Sunday

WASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) — Saturday is shaping up to be one of those classic “don’t waste it” spring days across the DMV. Sunshine wins out through the afternoon, and temperatures climb comfortably into the lower to middle 80s. There’s a light east breeze, just enough to keep things from feeling too warm. It’s a great setup for being outside, and it comes just before a noticeable change moves in.

Clouds begin to increase Saturday night, and the weather starts to turn more unsettled after midnight. Showers become likely toward and after 2 a.m. The air also cools off quite a bit, with lows dropping into the lower 50s. Winds shift from the southeast to the northeast overnight, and a few gusts could pick up as a cold front approaches. Rainfall amounts look light, but it’s the signal of a bigger shift ahead.

Sunday is a completely different feel. Showers are likely, especially through the morning and into early afternoon. Temperatures struggle, with highs near 60, and that may even be misleading. In many spots, readings could hold in the 50s or slowly fall during the day as cooler air pours in behind the front. A gusty northwest wind adds to the chill, making it feel raw at times.
