Body camera footage shows man in body armor arrested after firing at DC police officers

WASHINGTON — DC Police are offering new details and video of a noncontact shooting last week. Officers arrested a man wearing body armor after he was seen carrying a gun in a Northwest neighborhood. When officers approached the man, he fired at them. Police returned fire, but no one was wounded.

According to police, a neighbor called 911 to report a man with a gun on April 22 just before noon in the area of New Hampshire Avenue and Otis Place Northwest. The witness gave a description of the man.

A few minutes later, one officer spotted a man walking on New Hampshire toward Monroe Street. The officer is seen on body camera video radioing “Man with a gun!” before giving chase in his cruiser. Moments later, the sound of two gunshots can be heard in the video. The officer called in “shots fired.”…
