National Hurricane Center monitoring new area for possible tropical development in Gulf

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a new area in the northeastern Gulf of America for possible tropical development early next week, though the chances of formation remain low.

According to the latest Tropical Weather Outlook, an area of low pressure, a region where air pressure is lower than the surrounding atmosphere and where clouds and storms often develop, is expected to form sometime this weekend over the northeastern Gulf.

If the system develops, it is forecast to move slowly northeastward across the northeastern Gulf or near the southeastern U.S. coastline by early next week.

Low Development Chances

At this time, tropical development is not expected during the next 48 hours.

The National Hurricane Center gives the disturbance a near 0% chance of developing over the next two days and only a 20% chance of becoming a tropical or subtropical system during the next seven days…
