WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A former MorseLife social worker is accused of using an elderly patient’s bank account to make more than $31,000 in payments toward her personal credit card, including several transactions after the man entered hospice and died, according to a West Palm Beach Police Department probable cause affidavit.
Megan Elizabeth Bernat, 46, of Port St. Lucie, faces charges of exploitation of an elderly person involving between $10,000 and $50,000 and money laundering involving between $20,000 and $100,000.
Police allege Bernat used the victim’s bank account information to make 30 mobile payments totaling $31,295.28 to her Capital One credit card between May 2023 and April 2024. Seven payments were allegedly made after the patient was referred to hospice, and six were made after his death on March 15, 2024…
