WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A parasitic illness that can cause severe diarrhea has been reported in Palm Beach County and surrounding Treasure Coast counties, according to the Florida Department of Health.
According to the Florida Department of Health, eight people were diagnosed locally with cyclosporiasis during the past month.
The data shows:
- Five people in Palm Beach County were diagnosed.
- Two people in St. Lucie County were diagnosed.
- One person in Martin County was diagnosed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cyclosporiasis is a gastrointestinal illness caused by the microscopic parasite Cyclospora. People can become infected by consuming food or water contaminated with the parasite…
