WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — South Florida will see another round of scattered to numerous afternoon thunderstorms today, with the greatest coverage focused over the interior as summer heat continues across the region.
A large area of high pressure over the Atlantic will keep an easterly breeze in place through the end of the workweek. That wind pattern will push the Atlantic sea breeze inland each afternoon, making interior South Florida the most favorable area for showers and thunderstorms to develop.
Temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and lower 90s today, with humidity pushing heat index values into the 100 to 109 degree range. The hottest conditions are expected across Southwest Florida, where the “feels-like” temperature could climb above 105 degrees. Even without widespread heat advisories, prolonged time outdoors can still lead to heat-related illness.
