WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Scattered to numerous thunderstorms will develop across South Florida this afternoon and evening, with an isolated strong to severe storm possible.
A south to southwest wind will initially focus the greatest storm coverage across inland South Florida during the afternoon. As storms develop, their leftover boundaries could collide with sea breezes and trigger additional thunderstorms closer to the coastal metro areas later in the day.
A few storms could become particularly strong. The greatest concern will be powerful downburst winds, which occur when rapidly sinking air from a thunderstorm hits the ground and spreads outward. An isolated storm could approach or briefly reach severe levels, particularly where storms merge or multiple boundaries collide.
